COMMENTARY ON SKELETAL FROM THE MIRROR IS A WELL

Reflection

In this piece I examine and reflect on a poem from a collection I compiled during a poetry workshop course.

Aside from lending themselves to critical examination and critique, poems are interesting works to view from the writer's perspective. It had been several months since I'd written Skeletal when I completed this deconstruction and in reflecting on it I found myself able to approach with a certain distance, time had allowed me to "divorce" myself from my agenda at the time of composition. This said, the reflecting on this poem revealed how large a role the subconscious can play while writing (even when one might't intend it to), that pieces can act as a sort of time capsule which can transport the author and readers alike, back in time.
