WHO AM I?
Behind the Words
This question is often on my mind. As a current university student, one due to graduate in a matter of weeks, I've come to realize that identity has become linked to professional identify. In this sense I'm a fourth year university student finishing a double major bachelor of arts degree in english and music, with a minor in writing practices. I'm a barista at Starbucks. I'm a viola player.
When people learn these things about me they tend to smile in an effort to disguise a faint look of concern. Their first questions are always "What are you going to do once you graduate?" "How do you hope to combine those disciplines?" "What are you going to do to make money?"
Many questions, none of which I have the answers to. All I know is that I'm testing out the waters of life and laying the path before my feet.
The way I write mirrors this philosophy. I'm rarely one to plan things out, in fiction, rhetoric, non-fiction, anything . . . I tend to take a premise and go at it until I feel I've said all I can in that moment.
